As a leading international offshore operator with a growing influence in renewables sector, Equinor is helping to shape the future of energy.

The company’s UK portfolio includes the world’s first floating offshore wind farm, Hywind Scotland, off the Peterhead Coast and is also constructing the largest offshore wind farm in the world, Dogger Bank, with partner SSE Renewables.

Rhodri James, lead business developer, discussed the exciting prospects and opportunities within floating offshore wind. Matei Negrescu, head of Equinor’s area development in the North Sea region and Sanjanaa Achar, acting head of business development North Sea, gave an overview of Equinor’s North Sea renewable strategy, and how Equinor plans to shape a broad energy hub.

Rhodri James – Lead Business Developer, Equinor

Rhodri is a lead business developer at Equinor, concentrating on originating and maturing offshore wind opportunities in key established and emerging markets. This includes a particular focus on growth opportunities for floating offshore wind in Europe and East Asia. Prior to joining Equinor, Rhodri spent seven years at the Carbon Trust, advising international government departments and managing a series of technology innovation programmes.

Matei Negrescu – Head of Area Development North Sea, New Energy Solutions

Matei Negrescu is the head of area development North Sea, new energy solutions at Equinor. In this role, he is responsible for Equinor’s regional strategy and early phase offshore wind projects in the North Sea and preparing for Hywind Tampen operations – the world’s first floating windfarm to power oil & gas facilities. Matei joined Equinor (then Statoil) in 2006 after graduating with a Master of Science in Petroleum Engineering from Imperial College London. He has extensive leadership experience across energy value chains – from oil & gas to renewables, and from strategy to project development – and across geographies – from the North Sea to Brazil, Algeria and China.

Sanjanaa Achar – Acting Head of Business Development, North Sea

Sanjanaa is the acting head of business development North Sea, new energy solutions at Equinor. In this role, she is responsible for originating new offshore wind business development opportunities in the North Sea. Sanjanaa joined Equinor in 2018 after graduating with a Masters in Management from London Business School and a Masters in Chemical Engineering from University of Manchester. In Equinor, Sanjanaa has worked in both strategy and business development functions focusing on renewables.
