MEMBER NEWS: Floating Energy Forum 2022 conference programme now live

Mearns & Gill, in collaboration with market intelligence experts Archer Knight and Energy Maritime Associates (EMA), are pleased to announce the launch of the conference programme for the Floating Energy Forum 2022.

The vision of the Floating Energy Forum is to address the challenges in the oil and gas sector and the emergent commercial and technological considerations involved in the development of renewable offshore energy.

The forum will address why floating energy is such an important part of the renewable solution moving forward and will provide a platform to share experiences and challenges in reaching net zero by the 2050 target. Whether oil & gas, wind, solar, tidal or hydrogen; all are captured with the whole supply chain being invited to be part of the community which the forum is building. The primary intent of the event is to bring together asset managers, operators, service providers and technologists to create the opportunity for meaningful and useful discussions as well as the chance to share knowledge and technologies with a cumulative ability to advance the industry.

The event will cover 4 main themes: oil and gas new developments and asset integrity and life extension while, specific to renewables, the focus will be on new technologies for floating systems and challenges and opportunities in offshore floating energy.

The inaugural event in 2021 saw over 400 delegates register to attend an afternoon of virtual presentations and networking. The organisers are delighted to announce that the 2022 forum will run as a hybrid event on 18th May with a physical conference and exhibition being held at sponsor Maersk Training’s facility in Kingswells, Aberdeen. The presentations will be live streamed globally to delegates unable to attend in person who will also have access to online networking, the opportunity to visit virtual exhibitors, watch on-demand content online as well as being able to get involved in the live panel discussions.

Confirmed presentations include:

  • Innovative mooring systems for floating wind turbines and our lessons learned from the Hywind Tampen installation, Karl Daly, Vice President – Offshore Wind, DOF Subsea
  • FPSO life extensions –  John Butler, Global Lead for Energy Transition, Global Maritime
  • High accuracy underwater visual inspection, measurement, and fault dentification using remote teleoperation – Jordan Jolly, Head of Robotics/Product Manager, Abyss Solutions
  • New subsea MicroPile anchor technology under development – Jon Machin, Subsea Micropiles
  • Ports: anchoring and enabling floating energy – Luigi Napolitano, Enterprise and Innovation Manager, Aberdeen Harbour Board
  • Floating offshore wind to hydrogen: capturing the opportunity – Widya Wahyuni, Lead Engineer for the Dolphyn Development Project, ERM

There are still opportunities for companies to come on board as a sponsor or exhibitor. These opportunities come with the offer of presenting a 5-minute TechByte within the main conference programme. These short presentations are perfect for companies to present their technologies and solutions to the audience both in person and watching online.

Confirmed TechBytes include:

  • Digital Twins for subsea and marine assets – Charlie Reith, SeaFlo Consultancy
  • How to succeed in Taiwan’s offshore renewable market – Manuel Zehr, Formosan

Booking is now open to attend the Floating Energy Forum 2022. For further details on the programme, speakers, opportunities still available and details on how to book, please visit www.floatingenergyforum.com/

AREG is the original energy transition organisation, working on behalf of members to empower the energy supply chain and champion its expertise. Please get in touch if you have any questions or would like to find out more about membership.

AREG has played an important role in the growth of Scotland’s renewable energy sector, engaging the supply chain and developing the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre. However, we are only at the very beginning of the transition that AREG was established to both lead and support so there are still opportunities for companies to get into the constantly evolving renewables supply chain. We look forward to continuing our work together as renewables builds on its place as Scotland’s main source of power, and as we seek to deliver real change in the crucial areas of heat and transport.

Scottish Renewables

Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce has worked closely with AREG since its formation. The recent progress in the developments of offshore wind projects by Equinor and Vattenfall are as a result of the work of the group over many years. The north-east is known as the oil and gas capital of Europe. At the Chamber, we believe the region must evolve its position to being recognised as the energy capital. Whilst hydrocarbons will continue to be essential in driving our economy for years to come, the generation of renewable resources will play an increasingly important role in providing cost-effective power, innovative development and economic growth.

Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce

The enthusiasm and dedication of the early group that would become AREG was fundamental in us choosing to launch All-Energy in Aberdeen. The first tiny show was held in 2001, and AREG’s Chairman at the time, Jeremy Cresswell, played such an active role that I often describe him in terms such as All-Energy’s ‘midwife’. All-Energy is now the UK’s largest renewable and low carbon energy exhibition and conference in terms of number of attendees, space booked, and number of exhibiting companies. As AREG became firmly established, their presence and support for the event grew spectacularly over the years. We thank them most sincerely for their invaluable input.

All-Energy

Vattenfall has forged a strong working relationship with AREG through the development of the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre. AREG has worked tirelessly on behalf of the North East and it can take enormous credit for the growth of sustainable energy in the region and the path it has cleared for the region to capture further investment.

Vattenfall

Aberdeen City and Shire is emerging as a key location for renewables by successfully transferring its world-class oil and gas expertise into the sector and AREG has done much to advance this through a broad range of initiatives. It has acted as a catalyst in driving further investment in the local economy by engaging with companies, Government, public bodies and existing projects and we have been pleased to support their efforts. Scottish Enterprise will continue to engage with AREG as we increase Scotland’s use of renewable energy.
