Kimberley Marine Support Base Pty Ltd (KMSB) has today announced the appointment of Peterson Energy Logistics as the port operator and TAMS Group as the design and construct contractor of the Kimberley Marine Offloading Facility in Broome, Western Australia.
KMSB’s development of the $160 million multi-user port facility will comprise a floating wharf, connected by a linkspan ramp to a fixed bi-directional causeway, along with associated onshore terminal facilities. The facility will be located to the south of the existing Port of Broome wharf and will provide complimentary facilities for maritime trade and tourism.
Andrew Natta, Director of KMSB, said: “I am thrilled to announce the appointments of the operator and contractor. After many months of working closely with Peterson and TAMS, we are delighted to be collaborating with these experienced and knowledgeable experts in their fields.
“The announcement of the operator and contractor marks a significant milestone in the life of the Kimberley Marine Offloading Facility, and brings us closer to delivering world-class, innovative port infrastructure to Broome, with operations scheduled to commence in 2024. The construction and operation of the facility will bring more than 1,500 jobs and deliver significant economic benefits to the region.
“We are proud to be developing an asset that will bring growth and prosperity for generations, while helping to reduce costs and carbon emissions through efficient logistics solutions for a range of industries including agriculture, oil and gas, containerised cargo and tourism.”
Sarah Moore, CEO of Peterson Energy Logistics, said: “We are delighted to be announced as the operator of Kimberley Marine Offloading Facility and deliver safe, efficient and innovative integrated logistics to clients operating in the region.
“We look forward to working with KMSB and engaging with the local community, Broome Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and all stakeholders to ensure our collective success in Broome.”
Peterson is an international energy logistics provider which has been delivering integrated logistics services for more than 50 years and is established in key energy hubs around the world with operations in The Netherlands, UK, Guyana, Trinidad, Qatar and now Australia.
Peterson is part of the wider Royal Peterson Control Union Group, which already has an established presence in Australia, with CIS Control Union Australia delivering commodity inspection and certification services for clients in the region for more than 30 years.
Design and construction of the facility will be delivered by TAMS Group and commence in the third quarter of the 2022.
Lee Bartlett, CEO of TAMS Group commented: “As a West Australian business, with operations throughout the Pilbara and Kimberley, we are excited to be working with the team at KMSB to start these works and construct a critical piece of infrastructure for the Kimberley region.
“TAMS operates vessels all throughout the area and our team members live in Broome, so we understand just how welcomed this investment by KMSB will be to the local community and to the state.”
The core infrastructure will comprise a circa 1-hectare floating wharf connected to land via a bi-directional causeway and link span ramp positioned to take advantage of an area of naturally deep water resulting in a berth pocket that is at least 17 metres deep at low tide.
The innovative design of the floating wharf will overcome exiting limitations caused by Broome’s large tidal variations and will facilitate round-the-clock operations and vastly improve cycle times compared to the existing Port of Broome facilities.
The facility will provide new supply chain options to numerous industries, offering lower movement costs, reduced carbon emission options, and minimise risks through shorter distances to offshore oil and gas operations.
