Parents looking for the perfect early Christmas present for their children can give the gift of science this year, as Santa Claus heads to Aberdeen Science Centre for its Science with Santa workshops.
Bookings opened in November for the festive lab sessions, which are set to take place on Saturday and Sunday, December 16 and 17, with a limited number of spaces still available during the Sunday workshops.
Those attending the festive sessions will meet Santa and his most scientifically gifted elves.
The workshops, which are sponsored by commercial cleaning company Tidy Green Clean, will see children take part in fun festive activities, including learning how to make fake snow that they can sculpt into their very own snow masterpieces.
They can then explore the effects of chemical reactions as they ‘melt’ their snow creations.
Children can also get crafty in the sessions, as they design their own Christmas tree baubles using science-based art techniques.
Admission to the Science with Santa workshop costs £18 per child. Alongside participation in the session, the ticket price also includes a Christmas gift and photo with Santa Claus, admission for up to two accompanying adults and one hour of time on the exhibition floor, either prior to or after the workshop.
Under 3s can also join their older siblings at the centre for free but will not be able to take part in the workshop.
The centre’s laboratory area will be receiving a festive makeover ahead of the visit from Santa and his elves, courtesy of Aberdeen audiovisual company, AV One.
Limited places remain at the workshop sessions, so parents should book now to avoid disappointment.
Calli Buchanan, public programme coordinator at Aberdeen Science Centre said: “Santa Claus is coming to town to take part in our Science with Santa workshops later this month, and we are incredibly excited to be adding a touch of winter magic to our centre in time for his visit.
“Children will be able to make their own snow sculptures without the need for hats and gloves and can make baubles to decorate the tree at home. We have a limited number of spaces remaining in the sessions, so we are encouraging parents to act fast if they want their children to join in on the festive fun.”
The workshop sponsor, Tidy Green Clean, is an environmentally friendly commercial cleaning company, offering a range of commercial cleaning and facilities management services across Scotland.
