Aberdeen Science Centre will reward its visitors who travel sustainably to the centre from 8-30 September with half-price admission, as part of its latest theme.
Visitors who arrive at Aberdeen Science Centre on foot, by public transport, electric vehicle (EV), or any other means of environmentally friendly travel, will receive the 50% discount provided they can supply proof at the ticket desk.
This could include photographs captured en route, showing a bus ticket or parking an EV, bike or scooter in the centre’s car park.
The Sustainable Travel theme will also see the introduction of a new workshop to the centre’s varied STEM offering throughout weekends and school holidays during September and October.
The Fuelling the Future workshop will allow Aberdeen Science Centre’s visitors to discover more climate change and the impact that petrol and diesel-fuelled vehicles have on the environment, alongside exploring alternative modes of transportation through experiments with Salt Water Cars.
Younger visitors to Aberdeen Science Centre will also enjoy a special activity and story session in the centre’s designated Under-6 Zone, focused on encouraging an early awareness of how to reduce emissions while travelling.
Thanks to funding from Smarter Choices, Smarter Places, the 50% off entry will be granted to visitors upon the provision of evidence of sustainable travel to the centre from September 8-30 and is subject to the availability of the limited number of discounted tickets on offer.
Smarter Choices, Smarter Places is Scottish national walking charity Paths for All’s funding programme to increase active and sustainable travel throughout Scotland. The programme is grant-funded by Transport Scotland.
Elaine Holland, head of operations and deputy CEO at Aberdeen Science Centre, said: “As we all strive to reduce our environmental impact, sustainable travel has become more crucial than ever. We are proud to contribute to this by encouraging our visitors to explore the city using eco-friendly transportation options whenever possible and by rewarding them with a 50% off discount for entry when travelling to us on foot, bike, scooter, electric vehicle or via public transport between 8-30 September.
“Through our new workshop and green travel activities, we hope to inspire people of all ages to think twice about their preferred method of transport, showcasing the varied possibilities for travelling in a sustainable manner and ensuring we can still get around while limiting any harm done to the environment.”
Andrea Partridge, senior development officer for the Smarter Choices, Smarter Places Open Fund said: “Paths for All is delighted to be able to fund Aberdeen Science Centre to encourage its visitors to travel sustainably by walking, wheeling or using public transport.
