Member News: Double joy for Aberdein Considine at Herald Law Awards, including Solicitor of the Year

Flourishing law firm Aberdein Considine scooped two coveted awards at the Herald Law Awards of Scotland 2025.

Several hundred of Scotland’s leading lawyers gathered for this year’s ceremony, which took place at Glasgow’s Radisson Blu on Friday 7 November.

Aberdein Considine, headquartered in Aberdeen and with 21 offices and more than 450 staff across Scotland and northern England, took home the award for Debt Recovery Team of the Year, which it also won in 2024.

And Private Client Partner Aileen Entwistle, based in the firm’s Glasgow office, was named Solicitor of the Year.

This double legal awards success comes at the culmination of a milestone year for the firm.

In June, Aberdein Considine converted to a Limited Liability Partnership from a traditional partnership model and unveiled a refreshed brand identity. This followed closely on from the firm’s most successful financial year on record, which saw Aberdein Considine turn over more than £37 million in 2024/5, with profits up by 41%.

Jacqueline Law, Managing Partner at Aberdein Considine, said:

“I’m sure I speak for everyone at the firm when I say how proud we are of Aileen Entwistle and our banking litigation and commercial debt recovery teams for bringing home these two Herald Law Awards of Scotland trophies.

“To be recognised alongside Scotland’s top legal talent is a fantastic reflection of our people’s outstanding achievements and unwavering dedication to excellence.

“Congratulations to all the winners and finalists on the night – it’s clear Scotland’s legal profession is in a very good place given the talent and achievements being celebrated.”

Specialising in private client law for more than 20 years, Aileen Entwistle joined Aberdein Considine as a partner in the Glasgow office in 2019.

Colleague Paul Jennings, Partner and Head of Commercial Real Estate, described her as “a true team player and a wonderful colleague, with a commitment to client service and collegiality that sets standards others naturally want to follow”.

Meanwhile, a grateful client praised her as “an absolute star”, adding that “Aileen is not only an expert in her field, but at the same time is very approachable and down-to-earth, quick to put her clients at ease and reassure them that she not only understands the issues but knows just how to deal with them”.

On being named Solicitor of the Year 2025, Aileen Entwistle said:

“It’s a huge honour to have been awarded Solicitor of the Year 2025. It means a great deal to be recognised for my commitment to the legal profession and the work I do for my clients in helping them at all stages of their lives, guiding them in their estate planning and navigating often challenging legal and tax situations. My thanks also to my colleagues at Aberdein Considine LLP for providing me with a such a supportive working environment.”

The Herald Law Award for Debt Recovery Team of the Year was open to “firms, teams or organisations that focus on debt recovery, bank recovery, insolvency and corporate restrictions work”.

Aberdein Considine’s award entry highlighted both its specialist banking and financial litigation team, known as the Lender Services Practice Group, and the firm’s Dispute Resolution: Commercial Debt Recovery team, which offers both volume and bespoke secured and unsecured debt recovery services to clients across a range of business sectors, primarily to the Scottish SME market.

Myra Scott, Head of Aberdein Considine’s Lender Services Practice Group, said:

“We’re thrilled to have retained our title as Debt Recovery Team of the Year, which follows just a few months after we celebrated scooping Legal Team of the Year at the UK Credit Awards. These accolades mean a great deal to the whole Lender Services Practice Group, which continues to go from strength to strength. No other law firm in Scotland acts in as many secured litigation actions– or on behalf of the breadth of clients – as we do.”

Ross Webb, lead partner in Commercial Debt Recovery at Aberdein Considine, said:

“It’s normal for us in Dispute Resolution to pit our strengths against the cream of Scotland’s legal talent in contentious cases, but it’s something different to be named Team of the Year and win that coveted sector recognition for the commercial debt recovery work we do. I couldn’t be prouder of the team for what they’ve achieved.”

AREG is the original energy transition organisation, working on behalf of members to empower the energy supply chain and champion its expertise. Please get in touch if you have any questions or would like to find out more about membership.

AREG has played an important role in the growth of Scotland’s renewable energy sector, engaging the supply chain and developing the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre. However, we are only at the very beginning of the transition that AREG was established to both lead and support so there are still opportunities for companies to get into the constantly evolving renewables supply chain. We look forward to continuing our work together as renewables builds on its place as Scotland’s main source of power, and as we seek to deliver real change in the crucial areas of heat and transport.

Scottish Renewables

Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce has worked closely with AREG since its formation. The recent progress in the developments of offshore wind projects by Equinor and Vattenfall are as a result of the work of the group over many years. The north-east is known as the oil and gas capital of Europe. At the Chamber, we believe the region must evolve its position to being recognised as the energy capital. Whilst hydrocarbons will continue to be essential in driving our economy for years to come, the generation of renewable resources will play an increasingly important role in providing cost-effective power, innovative development and economic growth.

Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce

The enthusiasm and dedication of the early group that would become AREG was fundamental in us choosing to launch All-Energy in Aberdeen. The first tiny show was held in 2001, and AREG’s Chairman at the time, Jeremy Cresswell, played such an active role that I often describe him in terms such as All-Energy’s ‘midwife’. All-Energy is now the UK’s largest renewable and low carbon energy exhibition and conference in terms of number of attendees, space booked, and number of exhibiting companies. As AREG became firmly established, their presence and support for the event grew spectacularly over the years. We thank them most sincerely for their invaluable input.

All-Energy

Vattenfall has forged a strong working relationship with AREG through the development of the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre. AREG has worked tirelessly on behalf of the North East and it can take enormous credit for the growth of sustainable energy in the region and the path it has cleared for the region to capture further investment.

Vattenfall

Aberdeen City and Shire is emerging as a key location for renewables by successfully transferring its world-class oil and gas expertise into the sector and AREG has done much to advance this through a broad range of initiatives. It has acted as a catalyst in driving further investment in the local economy by engaging with companies, Government, public bodies and existing projects and we have been pleased to support their efforts. Scottish Enterprise will continue to engage with AREG as we increase Scotland’s use of renewable energy.
