Jean Morrison, chair of Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group (AREG), welcomed Crown Estate Scotland’s announcement confirming 13 new projects as part of the Innovation and Targeted Oil and Gas (INTOG) leasing round.
She said: “It’s great to see an additional 5.5GW of capacity being awarded by Crown Estate Scotland across 13 projects in this world-first offshore wind leasing round, which significantly boosts Scotland’s position as a global-leader in offshore wind.
We are excited to see a combination of innovation (IN) projects in addition to Targeted Oil and Gas (TOG) projects supporting the decarbonisation of oil and gas and the commercialisation of green hydrogen, which will bring a host of new opportunities for the Scottish supply chain.
With an enhanced pipeline of 33.5GW between ScotWind and INTOG, which was announcement on Friday, Scottish projects now make up almost one-third of the global floating pipeline.
Our members are at the forefront of innovation within the energy sector, and this is positive news, not only for those already leading in the offshore wind sector but for smaller innovative companies looking to enter the renewable energy market and support Scotland’s net zero ambitions.
“There are off course still challenges ahead for the supply chain and AREG will continue to support its members and associates, who play a vital role in the fast-growing market for floating offshore wind. We look forward to working with the INTOG supply chain as projects progress.”
AREG is one of the original energy transition organisations and represents more than 280 member organisations, enabling net zero.
