Local visitor attraction partners with BrewDog for pop-up activity days

Aberdeen Science Centre is teaming up with BrewDog to bring visitors two days of science and sensory discovery over the summer holidays.

Taking place on Friday, July 25 and Tuesday, August 5, Aberdeen Science Centre will host a series of pop-up activities, live experiments and interactive science laboratory sessions focused on exploring sustainability and the environment, in partnership with the multinational brand.

Ideal for family members of all ages, these fun-filled days will bring science to life through engaging lab sessions, creative activities and real-world examples of sustainable innovation.

Representatives from BrewDog will join the centre’s science communicators to deliver Sensory Food Tasting lab activities on both activity days, with two 30-minute sessions running each day.

The new workshop will offer a playful and educational way for children to understand how their senses influence taste and perception, helping them feel more confident about trying new foods. This activity is not suitable for children with food allergies.

As part of Aberdeen Science Centre’s collaboration with BrewDog, a new pop-up space will be found on the centre’s exhibition floor, filled with a variety of experiments and hands-on displays.

Activities in the BrewDog exhibition area will include a Sustainable Business Spotlight, which will detail how the company reduces its environmental impact. Interactive learning through craft, quizzes and interaction with the centre’s other displays will help visitors expand their knowledge and understanding of sustainability topics, including circular systems, anaerobic digestion and water recovery.

Alongside BrewDog, other local and national businesses will showcase their own sustainability efforts through interactive displays and educational experiences and experiments, highlighting the role of innovation in addressing environmental challenges.

Ice cream and chocolate producer Mackie’s of Scotland will introduce visitors to how it uses green technologies to create its sweet treats with its ‘Sky to Scoop’ philosophy, and the UK’s leading manufacturer of eco-friendly cleaning products, Delphis Eco, will examine sustainable and plastic reducing cleaning solutions through fun crafting activities.

Pictish Worms Ltd will also bring to life the importance of worms for our soil health and why that’s important for the food we grow and eat.

Bryan Snelling, chief executive officer at Aberdeen Science Centre, said: “We are thrilled to partner with BrewDog for two days of fun and engaging pop-up science activities in our centre across the summer holidays. From food science to sustainable business innovation, this collaboration offers something for everyone and highlights how science is all around us, including in the things we eat.

“Partnering with organisations like BrewDog allow us to introduce important science topics to new audiences in engaging and thought-provoking ways. By connecting science to everyday experiences, we can spark curiosity, encourage learning and inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers and innovators. We’re excited to welcome families to the centre for what promises to be a lively and fun celebration of science in action.”

Lauren Carrol, chief operating officer at BrewDog, said: “Sustainability offers a unique lens for fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) businesses to engage with all age ranges to support education around sustainability and environmental topics. As a homegrown North East of Scotland business, being able to partner with local organisations such as Aberdeen Science Centre provides an exciting opportunity to reach local communities to support STEM learning around renewable energy in the home of the Just Transition, and explore the place of life and plant sciences in FMCG and sustainability in a region renowned for local produce.

“BrewDog is delighted to be working with Aberdeen Science Centre, and local and UK homegrown companies who are working together to tackle climate change and sustainability changes.”

Access to all BrewDog pop-up activities running in the centre on July 25 and August 5 are included within the general admission cost for Aberdeen Science Centre.

Limited spaces are available in the BrewDog Sensory Food Tasting lab sessions and early online booking is encouraged to avoid disappointment.

AREG is the original energy transition organisation, working on behalf of members to empower the energy supply chain and champion its expertise. Please get in touch if you have any questions or would like to find out more about membership.

AREG has played an important role in the growth of Scotland’s renewable energy sector, engaging the supply chain and developing the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre. However, we are only at the very beginning of the transition that AREG was established to both lead and support so there are still opportunities for companies to get into the constantly evolving renewables supply chain. We look forward to continuing our work together as renewables builds on its place as Scotland’s main source of power, and as we seek to deliver real change in the crucial areas of heat and transport.

Scottish Renewables

Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce has worked closely with AREG since its formation. The recent progress in the developments of offshore wind projects by Equinor and Vattenfall are as a result of the work of the group over many years. The north-east is known as the oil and gas capital of Europe. At the Chamber, we believe the region must evolve its position to being recognised as the energy capital. Whilst hydrocarbons will continue to be essential in driving our economy for years to come, the generation of renewable resources will play an increasingly important role in providing cost-effective power, innovative development and economic growth.

Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce

The enthusiasm and dedication of the early group that would become AREG was fundamental in us choosing to launch All-Energy in Aberdeen. The first tiny show was held in 2001, and AREG’s Chairman at the time, Jeremy Cresswell, played such an active role that I often describe him in terms such as All-Energy’s ‘midwife’. All-Energy is now the UK’s largest renewable and low carbon energy exhibition and conference in terms of number of attendees, space booked, and number of exhibiting companies. As AREG became firmly established, their presence and support for the event grew spectacularly over the years. We thank them most sincerely for their invaluable input.

All-Energy

Vattenfall has forged a strong working relationship with AREG through the development of the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre. AREG has worked tirelessly on behalf of the North East and it can take enormous credit for the growth of sustainable energy in the region and the path it has cleared for the region to capture further investment.

Vattenfall

Aberdeen City and Shire is emerging as a key location for renewables by successfully transferring its world-class oil and gas expertise into the sector and AREG has done much to advance this through a broad range of initiatives. It has acted as a catalyst in driving further investment in the local economy by engaging with companies, Government, public bodies and existing projects and we have been pleased to support their efforts. Scottish Enterprise will continue to engage with AREG as we increase Scotland’s use of renewable energy.
