FG Burnett selected UCAN, the north east’s urological cancer charity, as their nominated charity for 2022. In the year to date, the Aberdeen based commercial property company organised a number of fundraising events including a charity quiz night and a Valentine’s themed bake sale. In addition, some of the FGB team took part in the 2022 Kiltwalk, completing the 26-mile ‘Mighty Stride’ from Potarch, north of Banchory to the city’s Duthie Park. The company was delighted to present Gayle Stephen of UCAN with a cheque for £5,670.
UCAN has aimed to improve support for those affected by urological cancers, developing an array of services. Key among these services is a dedicated UCAN Cancer Care Centre co-located within the Urology ward 209 at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and offering access to various information tools and materials, as well as advice from experienced urological cancer specialist nursing staff. Other services include an online information site and a one-to-one peer support network matching newly diagnosed patients with ‘buddy-advisors’ who experienced a similar diagnosis. Another key activity of UCAN is raising awareness of the urological cancers through health promotion in the community as a way of encouraging early presentation when symptoms begin.
Richard Noble, Managing Director at Burnett commented: “UCAN plays a vital role supporting those affected by urological cancers and we had no hesitation in choosing them as our nominated charity of the year for 2022. I would like to thank the whole FGB team for all their fundraising efforts so far and look forward to continuing this throughout the rest of the year.”
Justine Royle, Chair of UCAN said “We are very grateful to FG Burnett for choosing UCAN as their Charity of the Year, the money raised will make a real difference to urological cancer patients in the North East of Scotland, thank you to you all for your fundraising efforts so far.”
