MEMBER NEWS: Hendrik Veder Group appoints Sustainability Specialist

In a move that testifies its commitment to creating sustainable change within the marine, oil and gas, and shipping industries, Hendrik Veder Group has announced the appointment of a Sustainability & Circularity Specialist.

The European leader in steel wire and fibre rope products and services has appointed Anne Raangs to the new position. This role will focus exclusively on projects that enhance sustainability practices and contribute to efforts to strengthen the circular economy of the industries in which Hendrik Veder Group operates.

Following an experienced career in the offshore and maritime industry supply chain and having played a crucial role in a series of sustainability and environmental-focused projects and groups, Anne will utilise her expertise across both fields to further integrate Hendrik Veder Group’s dedication to sustainable alternatives to standard industry practices for its customers.

Responsible for developing, implementing, and promoting Hendrik Veder Group’s sustainable initiatives, Anne will design detailed strategies for customers within the North Sea triangle (UK, NL, and NO) whilst establishing partnerships with operators to implement new approaches. This includes applying circular solutions for end-of-life materials (such as used rigging materials) and supporting customers to optimise the reuse of resources as part of a cost-effective asset management project.

Through a proven inventory management program, Hendrik Veder Group’s asset management support provides direct insight into the condition and certification of lifting and hoisting equipment. By supporting customers to integrate the program, Anne will help clients introduce a cost-efficient, safe, and sustainable approach to maximising the utilisation grade and lifespan of equipment and materials.

Although the role is based in its Rotterdam headquarters, the position will oversee the entirety of the Group – including its UK division, with a primary office in Aberdeen and a secondary branch in Sheffield – to align commercial and operational teams in the Netherlands, Norway, and the UK.

Discussing her new role, Anne commented: “This is an exciting development to be part of at Hendrik Veder Group. I have maintained a close eye on the Group and its track record of providing sustainable and more environmentally conscious alternatives, so I am thrilled to help develop this even further. Hendrik Veder Group has consistently shown that its commitment to sustainability is not just a marketing strategy; the team here truly has made an impact in reducing industry impact. I look forward to continuing to utilise my technical industry knowledge and experience in implementing sustainable strategies as part of my new role and to help the Group achieve its aims, making a lasting impact across our industries.”

Welcoming Anne, UK Managing Director Bertwin Zonneveld added: “Hendrik Veder Group continues to pave the way for supporting sustainable development within the maritime, offshore, and shipping industries. We have a rich history of innovation, and Anne’s appointment as Sustainability & Circularity Specialist is the latest milestone. We have embraced Anne’s experience and insight wholeheartedly and believe she can help take our approach to the next level, creating synergy between suppliers and operators to maintain high sustainability standards and a commitment to reducing our collective carbon footprint. Collaboration is key, and through this new appointment, we will create a framework across the North Sea triangle that we hope can make a global impact.”

AREG is the original energy transition organisation, working on behalf of members to empower the energy supply chain and champion its expertise. Please get in touch if you have any questions or would like to find out more about membership.

AREG has played an important role in the growth of Scotland’s renewable energy sector, engaging the supply chain and developing the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre. However, we are only at the very beginning of the transition that AREG was established to both lead and support so there are still opportunities for companies to get into the constantly evolving renewables supply chain. We look forward to continuing our work together as renewables builds on its place as Scotland’s main source of power, and as we seek to deliver real change in the crucial areas of heat and transport.

Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce has worked closely with AREG since its formation. The recent progress in the developments of offshore wind projects by Equinor and Vattenfall are as a result of the work of the group over many years. The north-east is known as the oil and gas capital of Europe. At the Chamber, we believe the region must evolve its position to being recognised as the energy capital. Whilst hydrocarbons will continue to be essential in driving our economy for years to come, the generation of renewable resources will play an increasingly important role in providing cost-effective power, innovative development and economic growth.

The enthusiasm and dedication of the early group that would become AREG was fundamental in us choosing to launch All-Energy in Aberdeen. The first tiny show was held in 2001, and AREG’s Chairman at the time, Jeremy Cresswell, played such an active role that I often describe him in terms such as All-Energy’s ‘midwife’. All-Energy is now the UK’s largest renewable and low carbon energy exhibition and conference in terms of number of attendees, space booked, and number of exhibiting companies. As AREG became firmly established, their presence and support for the event grew spectacularly over the years. We thank them most sincerely for their invaluable input.

Vattenfall has forged a strong working relationship with AREG through the development of the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre. AREG has worked tirelessly on behalf of the North East and it can take enormous credit for the growth of sustainable energy in the region and the path it has cleared for the region to capture further investment.

Aberdeen City and Shire is emerging as a key location for renewables by successfully transferring its world-class oil and gas expertise into the sector and AREG has done much to advance this through a broad range of initiatives. It has acted as a catalyst in driving further investment in the local economy by engaging with companies, Government, public bodies and existing projects and we have been pleased to support their efforts. Scottish Enterprise will continue to engage with AREG as we increase Scotland’s use of renewable energy.
