Member News: Leading Scottish AI digital tech company Fennex showcases expanded office space as it celebrates the presentation of the King’s Award for Enterprise

Award-winning AI digital tech company Fennex celebrated receiving the prestigious Kings Award for Enterprise 2025 for International Trade on Tuesday 28 October, showcasing its achievements in 2025, and its expanded office space in Aberdeen’s ONE Tech Hub.

The presentation was led by Aberdeen’s Lord Lieutenant, David Cameron, in front of an invited audience of customers, partners, and industry stakeholders.

Speaking at the event, Nassima Brown, Co-founder and Strategy Director at Fennex, said:

“We are deeply honoured to receive the UK’s most prestigious accolade, recognising our success in growing overseas export of our AI-powered safety solutions for the offshore industry.

“Innovation has always been at the heart of Fennex’s journey — it’s what has enabled us to scale our cutting-edge digital technologies globally and achieve a remarkable 300% growth in export sales over the past three years. This award is not just a recognition of our global success, but a testament to the power of technology and partnerships driving safer, smarter, and more efficient operations across high-risk sectors worldwide.

“We are also delighted to have recently doubled our office space at ONE Tech Hub, a vibrant environment that continues to fuel our growth, creativity, and collaboration. The support from the team at Opportunity North East has been pivotal, and Fennex is now their largest tenant in the Hub.  ONE remains a key partner in our ongoing growth, and our location within the Hub ensures that we remain at the heart of digital technology excellence in Aberdeen. The expertise and support we have received from ONE has transformed our approach to entrepreneurship and enabled our progress – they are an invaluable resource. While 70% of our business is now international, we remain proudly anchored in Aberdeen and the North East, where our story began.”

Jennifer Craw MBE, CEO at Opportunity North East commented:

“Adrian and Nassima exemplify the power of ambition paired with innovation. Their journey with Fennex—from startup to international scale-up—has been remarkable. At ONE Tech Hub, we’ve seen their dedication, global vision, and customer-first mindset flourish. They represent exactly the kind of entrepreneurial spirit that’s driving real transformation across our region, and we’re proud to have played a part in their growth story. ONE is committed to fuelling founders, like Nassima and Adrian, attracting investment and driving lasting impact across the digital tech ecosystem.”

In the last three years Fennex has also doubled the number of employees to 30 people representing 12 nationalities, with 35% women in the workforce and 50% of leadership roles held by women. Many of its employees have progressed from graduate hires to senior positions through structured CPD programmes. Fennex maintains strong connections with local universities, offering internships and development opportunities that help to build the region’s future skills base.

Over 80 customers, staff and stakeholders attended the King’s Award presentation and enjoyed an evening of networking and celebration, marking another significant milestone in the company’s ongoing journey of innovation, growth, and global impact.

AREG is the original energy transition organisation, working on behalf of members to empower the energy supply chain and champion its expertise. Please get in touch if you have any questions or would like to find out more about membership.

AREG has played an important role in the growth of Scotland’s renewable energy sector, engaging the supply chain and developing the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre. However, we are only at the very beginning of the transition that AREG was established to both lead and support so there are still opportunities for companies to get into the constantly evolving renewables supply chain. We look forward to continuing our work together as renewables builds on its place as Scotland’s main source of power, and as we seek to deliver real change in the crucial areas of heat and transport.

Scottish Renewables

Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce has worked closely with AREG since its formation. The recent progress in the developments of offshore wind projects by Equinor and Vattenfall are as a result of the work of the group over many years. The north-east is known as the oil and gas capital of Europe. At the Chamber, we believe the region must evolve its position to being recognised as the energy capital. Whilst hydrocarbons will continue to be essential in driving our economy for years to come, the generation of renewable resources will play an increasingly important role in providing cost-effective power, innovative development and economic growth.

Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce

The enthusiasm and dedication of the early group that would become AREG was fundamental in us choosing to launch All-Energy in Aberdeen. The first tiny show was held in 2001, and AREG’s Chairman at the time, Jeremy Cresswell, played such an active role that I often describe him in terms such as All-Energy’s ‘midwife’. All-Energy is now the UK’s largest renewable and low carbon energy exhibition and conference in terms of number of attendees, space booked, and number of exhibiting companies. As AREG became firmly established, their presence and support for the event grew spectacularly over the years. We thank them most sincerely for their invaluable input.

All-Energy

Vattenfall has forged a strong working relationship with AREG through the development of the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre. AREG has worked tirelessly on behalf of the North East and it can take enormous credit for the growth of sustainable energy in the region and the path it has cleared for the region to capture further investment.

Vattenfall

Aberdeen City and Shire is emerging as a key location for renewables by successfully transferring its world-class oil and gas expertise into the sector and AREG has done much to advance this through a broad range of initiatives. It has acted as a catalyst in driving further investment in the local economy by engaging with companies, Government, public bodies and existing projects and we have been pleased to support their efforts. Scottish Enterprise will continue to engage with AREG as we increase Scotland’s use of renewable energy.
