Oil and Gas UK (OGUK) has appointed a new health, safety and environment (HSE) director from EnQuest, as incumbent Trevor Stapleton is soon to retire.
Mark Wilson will take up the role in “early 2022”.
Prior to becoming HSE director at operator EnQuest, Mr Wilson spent the first part of his career with the British Army as a mechanical engineer.
He later spent seven years with ConocoPhillips in a variety of roles, including as offshore installation manager, before moving to his current position at EnQuest in 2018.
His work has included being the lead for EnQuest’s operations amid Covid-19, acting as the group enterprise risk co-ordinator and focal point for emission management.
Meanwhile, Mr Stapleton has been coordinating industry efforts at Oil and Gas UK amid the outbreak, chairing its Pandemic Steering Group to ensure an effective response to Covid-19 across the sector.
That work included regular media briefings on the status of the industry and its protection of domestic energy supply.
OGUK chief executive Deirdre Michie said: “I’d like to express my sincere thanks to Trevor for his tireless work for OGUK and the industry as a whole.
“His unwavering commitment to upholding the highest health and safety standards has been admirable, especially in light of the incredibly challenging circumstances we still find ourselves in.
“I wish Trevor all the best for a long and happy retirement.”
Alongside his work with EnQuest, Mark Wilson has supported the oil and gas industry in areas including development of the Safe Working Essentials toolkit with Step Change in Safety and chairing OGUK’s working groups to prevent hydrocarbon releases.
He is also the Energy Ambassador for the Aberdeen and Grampian Branch of the Institute of Directors.
On his appointment, Ms Michie said: “We’re delighted to have Mark join OGUK. Mark brings with him a wealth of HSE experience, from his time with organisations like ConocoPhillips and EnQuest, and I wish him great success in his new role.”
