Member News: Archie Foundation and Aberdein Considine partner for discounted wills offering

The Archie Foundation has partnered with leading law firm Aberdein Considine LLP to offer discounted referrals for will-writing services for people across the North-east of Scotland.

Aberdein Considine will provide a 15% discount on the creation of a will for people who use a referral code from Archie, which exists to transform experiences and outcomes in healthcare and bereavement for babies, children and families across North Scotland.

Open to people of all ages, the ongoing partnership aims to encourage more people to plan ahead and put their wishes in writing, highlighting the importance of creating a will and giving people an added incentive to take the first step.

Ryan Fox, partner in Aberdein Considine’s Private Client department, said:

“We are proud to partner with The Archie Foundation to introduce our discounted will writing referral scheme. While it is a subject many people are hesitant to think about, ensuring your wishes are respected and your loved ones are provided for is so important.

“Creating a will is often a simpler and less expensive process than many people imagine and our solicitors offer straightforward and practical advice that can help people plan ahead with confidence.

“Working with The Archie Foundation is a natural fit for us. The charity’s work supporting babies, children and families at some of the most difficult moments of their lives is felt right across the North-east. We’re pleased to help make will-writing more accessible and facilitate charitable giving in wills.”

People in Tayside and the Highlands will soon also be able to benefit from the discounted will service, as The Archie Foundation plans to partner with local law firms in each region to extend this offering further across Scotland.

Ruth McIntosh, head of fundraising at The Archie Foundation, said:

“Partnering with Aberdein Considine to offer a discounted will service shows what a local business and a local charity can achieve together. We’re very grateful to the team for their support and for sharing our commitment to families across the North-east.

“Planning for the future isn’t something to put off until later life. Whatever your age or circumstances, a will is the clearest way to make sure everything you’ve worked for goes to the people and causes that matter most to you. We hope this offer encourages more people to take that first step and gives them real peace of mind.”

Anyone interested in this service can contact Archie directly to receive a referral code. The code can then be shared with Aberdein Considine when arranging an appointment, with the 15% discount applied to the cost of the will.

While there is no obligation for people making use of the referral to leave a gift to Archie in their will, those who choose to can help support local babies, children and their families.

Gifts of any size make a lasting difference to the charity’s work. Supporters can choose to direct their gift to a particular area of Archie’s work or a specific region, or leave their legacy gift unrestricted, so that the charity can use it wherever the need is greatest at the time.

AREG has played an important role in the growth of Scotland’s renewable energy sector, engaging the supply chain and developing the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre. However, we are only at the very beginning of the transition that AREG was established to both lead and support so there are still opportunities for companies to get into the constantly evolving renewables supply chain. We look forward to continuing our work together as renewables builds on its place as Scotland’s main source of power, and as we seek to deliver real change in the crucial areas of heat and transport.

Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce has worked closely with AREG since its formation. The recent progress in the developments of offshore wind projects by Equinor and Vattenfall are as a result of the work of the group over many years. The north-east is known as the oil and gas capital of Europe. At the Chamber, we believe the region must evolve its position to being recognised as the energy capital. Whilst hydrocarbons will continue to be essential in driving our economy for years to come, the generation of renewable resources will play an increasingly important role in providing cost-effective power, innovative development and economic growth.

The enthusiasm and dedication of the early group that would become AREG was fundamental in us choosing to launch All-Energy in Aberdeen. The first tiny show was held in 2001, and AREG’s Chairman at the time, Jeremy Cresswell, played such an active role that I often describe him in terms such as All-Energy’s ‘midwife’. All-Energy is now the UK’s largest renewable and low carbon energy exhibition and conference in terms of number of attendees, space booked, and number of exhibiting companies. As AREG became firmly established, their presence and support for the event grew spectacularly over the years. We thank them most sincerely for their invaluable input.

Vattenfall has forged a strong working relationship with AREG through the development of the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre. AREG has worked tirelessly on behalf of the North East and it can take enormous credit for the growth of sustainable energy in the region and the path it has cleared for the region to capture further investment.

Aberdeen City and Shire is emerging as a key location for renewables by successfully transferring its world-class oil and gas expertise into the sector and AREG has done much to advance this through a broad range of initiatives. It has acted as a catalyst in driving further investment in the local economy by engaging with companies, Government, public bodies and existing projects and we have been pleased to support their efforts. Scottish Enterprise will continue to engage with AREG as we increase Scotland’s use of renewable energy.
