Member News: Law firm raises £35k for disadvantaged children and young people in 2025/26 charity challenge

A year-long series of fundraising challenges and events from staff at Aberdein Considine LLP has raised £35,000 in total for the law firm’s two 2025/26 charity partners, Cash for Kids and the Russell Anderson Foundation (RAF).

Building on successful fundraising activities in previous years, which have seen Aberdein Considine employees raise more than £115,000 for various worthy causes since 2022, the firm has donated £20,000 to RAF and £15,000 to Cash for Kids in the past 12 months.

The firm’s charity committee is run jointly by Robert Holland, Partner and Head of Employment Law, and Ruth Aberdein, Partner and Head of Family Law.

Robert said:

“Yet again, we’ve been blown away by the dedication of our people to raise funds for our charity partners. Across the last year, colleagues took part in events, challenges and activities, at times pushing themselves to their physical and mental limits, all in support of Cash for Kids and the Russell Anderson Foundation.

“Both charities do vital work for disadvantaged children and young people, and we hope the money the firm has raised makes a real difference to the people who need it most.”

Ruth Aberdein added:

“As we now look to select our next charity partners, we remain committed to supporting local causes that make a genuine difference in our communities, and we’d like to thank everyone across the firm who took part or donated this year for their continued generosity and effort.”

The RAF improves the lives of children in socially deprived areas of Aberdeen through life-changing programmes that make a sustainable and measurable difference to their health and wellbeing. Cash for Kids is dedicated to supporting children and young people across the UK affected by poverty, abuse, neglect, life-limiting illness and those with additional needs. To raise funds for both charities, the firm’s employees undertook several endurance challenges, including the Kiltwalk and other walking events, marathons and even scaled the famous Falkirk Kelpies. Notably, Robert Holland took on the 14-day K2 Base Camp Trek alongside his son Daniel to raise almost £4,000 for Cash for Kids and the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation. Employees also participated in company-run events including an ‘Aberdein Considine’s Got Talent’ competition, bake sales, bingo nights and a range of internal staff competitions. Festive fundraising efforts saw the Aberdein Considine offices get involved in Christmas Jumper Day and spend time volunteering as they organised presents at Cash for Kids’ Mission Christmas events. A spokesperson for the Russell Anderson Foundation said: “We have been hugely impressed by the efforts that Aberdein Considine has invested in its charity partners, including RAF, over the past period and the phenomenal amount that has been generated. RAF relies heavily on the generosity of organisations such as Aberdein Considine to continue its much-needed work with youngsters in the Aberdeen area.”

Donna Bednarek, Charity Manager for Forth 1 Cash for Kids, said:

“We are blown away by the incredible support from Aberdein Considine over the last year. Every penny raised has made such a difference. As a local charity we rely on the generosity and support of businesses and individuals in our local community to ensure we can be there for every child who needs our support, now and in the future. Thank you to everyone involved, it is truly appreciated.”

AREG is the original energy transition organisation, working on behalf of members to empower the energy supply chain and champion its expertise. Please get in touch if you have any questions or would like to find out more about membership.

AREG has played an important role in the growth of Scotland’s renewable energy sector, engaging the supply chain and developing the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre. However, we are only at the very beginning of the transition that AREG was established to both lead and support so there are still opportunities for companies to get into the constantly evolving renewables supply chain. We look forward to continuing our work together as renewables builds on its place as Scotland’s main source of power, and as we seek to deliver real change in the crucial areas of heat and transport.

Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce has worked closely with AREG since its formation. The recent progress in the developments of offshore wind projects by Equinor and Vattenfall are as a result of the work of the group over many years. The north-east is known as the oil and gas capital of Europe. At the Chamber, we believe the region must evolve its position to being recognised as the energy capital. Whilst hydrocarbons will continue to be essential in driving our economy for years to come, the generation of renewable resources will play an increasingly important role in providing cost-effective power, innovative development and economic growth.

The enthusiasm and dedication of the early group that would become AREG was fundamental in us choosing to launch All-Energy in Aberdeen. The first tiny show was held in 2001, and AREG’s Chairman at the time, Jeremy Cresswell, played such an active role that I often describe him in terms such as All-Energy’s ‘midwife’. All-Energy is now the UK’s largest renewable and low carbon energy exhibition and conference in terms of number of attendees, space booked, and number of exhibiting companies. As AREG became firmly established, their presence and support for the event grew spectacularly over the years. We thank them most sincerely for their invaluable input.

Vattenfall has forged a strong working relationship with AREG through the development of the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre. AREG has worked tirelessly on behalf of the North East and it can take enormous credit for the growth of sustainable energy in the region and the path it has cleared for the region to capture further investment.

Aberdeen City and Shire is emerging as a key location for renewables by successfully transferring its world-class oil and gas expertise into the sector and AREG has done much to advance this through a broad range of initiatives. It has acted as a catalyst in driving further investment in the local economy by engaging with companies, Government, public bodies and existing projects and we have been pleased to support their efforts. Scottish Enterprise will continue to engage with AREG as we increase Scotland’s use of renewable energy.
