Member News: Port of Aberdeen CFO Jon Oakey to retire

Jon Oakey, Chief Financial Officer, at Port of Aberdeen will retire this year, bringing to a close more than 35 years in senior finance and operational leadership roles.

Jon joined the port in 2019 and played a pivotal role in the financing and governance of the £420 million Aberdeen South Harbour expansion – one of the UK’s largest marine infrastructure projects. Under his financial stewardship, Port of Aberdeen achieved record turnover of £50.7 million and an operating profit of £24.5 million in 2024, while also navigating a more challenging trading environment recently.

Before joining Port of Aberdeen, Jon was Finance Director, Scotland for Stagecoach Group and served as Managing Director of the East Scotland bus operator. He has also held senior roles in Bristow Helicopters and several oil and gas service companies, managing complex operations around the world.

Jon was shortlisted for CFO of the Year at the inaugural Finance and Business Accountancy Awards in Aberdeen in 2025. He is a Board Member of ETZ Ltd and a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.

“After a long career in Oil & Gas related industries, it was appropriate that I landed at the Port of Aberdeen for my final full-time role, as the Port is crucial in its support for the industry, while also being at the centre of the Aberdeen City and Shire business community. My time at the Port has been one I will always value as it saw the successful completion of a vital element of the Port’s future to ensure its continued importance to the local community for a further 900 years. I look forward to maintaining my links with the City and Shire, though hopefully at a more relaxed pace.”
